Meet your Therapist
Founded by experienced Licensed Professional Counselors, Nova Mental Health Counseling blends expertise with empathy. We value honest conversation, a touch of humor, and a human approach to therapy. Growth is easier when it feels safe, supportive, and authentic — and that’s exactly what we provide.

About Katie
What Katie wants you to know:
“It takes quite a bit to offend me. I appreciate dark humor and honest, direct conversation, but I also understand that sometimes what people need most is a space where they can finally say the things they haven’t been able to say anywhere else.”

Before becoming a therapist, I spent more than a decade working at a fast-growing tech company. That experience gave me a deep appreciation for the real-life pressures people face as they navigate career demands, relationships, and personal transitions.
Eventually, I realized my true calling was helping people work through those moments.
I earned my Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Virginia Tech and my Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Marymount University.
Outside of my work, I enjoy spending time with my husband, daughter, and our two cats.
My Grief Approach
I am a certified grief-informed professional and grief educator with advanced training in complex and traumatic grief.
My work focuses on helping people understand what they are experiencing and make sense of emotions that can feel confusing, heavy, or isolating.
Grief doesn’t have a timeline, and it rarely follows a predictable path. Together, we focus on:
• Understanding the root of what you are feeling
• Processing loss or change in a way that feels manageable
• Reducing the anxiety, depression, or overwhelm that grief can bring
• Finding ways to move forward while still honoring what mattered
I’m not here to tell you what you should do or how you’re supposed to feel. Life is complicated, and most people are balancing many responsibilities while quietly carrying their own internal struggles.
My goal is to help you make sense of your experience so you can move forward with your loss as part of your story — growing with it rather than feeling defined by it.
