Anger Management Counseling in Virginia
Counseling for people who are tired of the blow-ups, the shutdowns, and the awkward repair that follows. Secure telehealth across Virginia.
Takes about two minutes. No commitment. We reply within one business day.
Anger is information. The problem is what it costs.
Anger itself isn't the enemy; it usually points to something real. The trouble is when it comes out faster, hotter, or more often than you want, or when you swallow it until it leaks out sideways.
People often come to counseling for:
Snapping at a partner, kids, or coworkers and regretting it
Going from calm to furious with no warning you can catch
Road rage, slammed doors, broken things, or a raised voice you don't recognize
Simmering resentment and irritability that never fully clears
Shutting down, going cold, or giving the silent treatment
Anger that covers something else: hurt, fear, grief, exhaustion
A partner, boss, or friend who has said "you need to deal with this"
Catching it earlier, and choosing what happens next
We use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills to help you notice the build-up sooner, understand what's underneath it, and respond in a way you won't need to apologize for. This is counseling, not a lecture. Most people who come to us about anger are already harder on themselves than anyone else is.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
We welcome people who have been referred or ordered by a court, and we offer individual counseling rather than a group class. Court requirements vary, so before you start, confirm with your attorney or probation officer that individual counseling is accepted and what documentation they need. Bring that to the consultation call and we'll tell you honestly whether we can meet it.
-
No. Breathing helps in the moment; the real work is understanding your triggers and patterns so the moment comes up less often.
-
If anyone is in danger right now, call 911. If you're safe and want to change the pattern, that's exactly what this is for.
-
20 minute consultations are free to ensure we are what you are looking for. Session rates vary by counselor, see their rates in their profiles linked below.

We’re out-of-network, and we provide superbills so you can request reimbursement from your insurance company. Reimbursement varies by plan, so ask your provider today what your out-of-network mental health benefits cover.

How we work because your concerns and privacy matter.
We offer counseling grounded in approaches with research support, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills, and trauma-focused work such as EMDR, in a collaborative style. You set the pace. We don't push you to talk about anything before you're ready.
We know that for many people, not knowing where to start can prevent us from taking that uncomfortable first step. We are here to guide you like a helpful passenger in the car you are driving. We will provide insights and you decide if we keep going with it or shift elsewhere.
Your information stays private, and you choose how we contact you: call, text, email, or only a particular email address or time of day. We will not leave a message that mentions therapy unless you tell us it's OK.
We aren't a crisis service and we don't treat every concern. If we're not the right fit, we'll help you find someone who is.
