More than feeling sad. Depression doesn't always look like crying. Often it looks like going through the motions while something inside has gone quiet.
People often come to counseling for:
Low mood, numbness, or feeling flat for weeks at a time
Losing interest in things that used to matter
Exhaustion that sleep doesn't fix, or sleeping far too much or too little
Trouble concentrating, deciding, or getting started on anything
Guilt, hopelessness, and a harsh inner voice
Pulling away from people, then feeling worse for it
"High-functioning" depression: holding it together at work and falling apart at home
Small steps, taken together
We use approaches with research support for depression, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and behavioral activation, which starts with small, doable changes to how your days are structured and builds from there. We also make room to understand what the depression is connected to: grief, stress, old patterns, a life that stopped fitting. You don't have to feel motivated to begin. Showing up is enough.
